Internship at the Knowledge Centre for Psychology and Economic Behaviour
Note: We currently cannot offer the internship to non-dutch speakers, due to the nature of our projects.
Note: The start date of the internship is currently jan/feb 2025. You can apply at any time. You can apply until January 5th.
Are you interested in working on the cutting edge of science and practice? to share scientific knowledge about behaviour with relevant parties outside the university? to put your knowledge to practice in behavioural interventions and field experiments? Then an internship at the Knowledge Centre might be right for you.
About us
The Knowledge Centre was created to bridge the gap between science and practice. We are part of the Leiden University's section of Social, Economic, and Organizational Psychology. Our primary goal is to develop, apply, and share scientific knowledge about (economic) behaviour.
More information about our knowledge Centre can be found at our website, www.kcpeg.nl.
The team
The Knowledge Centre employs researchers and advisors, scientific experts, PhD candidates, student assistants and interns. The researchers and advisors are often around at the office. They run the day-to-day operations. We also collaborate with a large number of researchers from Leiden University. As scientific experts, they provide us their expertise in various projects. The Knowledge Centre is also the workplace of several PhD students. As an intern, you will mainly work together with the researchers and advisers.
Language
Note that most of our work is in Dutch, but we do have some projects in English so we do not include command of the Dutch language as a requirement. However, it could be the case that there is not sufficient work in English at the time of your application. If you are interested in this internship please contact us first before sending in your application to check if there is sufficient work.
Who are you?
You are a student in a relevant University Master program, such as Psychology or Behavioural Economics.
What are you going to do?
You will become part of the team. Depending on the projects we currently have and your own learning goals, you will join one or more projects. This could involve research, organising events, or applying behavioural insights in the form of interventions.
For example, we are working on an interesting project with the Ministry of Finance. In this project, we are investigating how we can reach people with financial problems in an early stage. In a project like this, you will collaborate with experts in the field and take part in research with practical implications.
BIT-UL team
BIT-UL is an initiative from the Knowledge Centre, it stands for Behavioural Insights Team Universiteit Leiden. The team focuses on solving behavioural issues that arise within Leiden University, such as:
- How do we ensure that employees turn off the heating and close the windows when they leave a room/hall for the rest of the day?
- What are the reasons for employees to travel by train or airplane when travelling abroad for work?
As an intern you will be part of the BIT-UL team. Read more about BIT UL here.
Practical information
Part-time
The internship will be parttime, 2-4 days a week.
When
We will decide together when the internship starts. We have an internship position open again from early Januari 2025. The duration of the internship depends on how many hours per week you will work and the total number of hours. The minimum total internship duration is 3 months because we have found this necessary to work effectively in the projects.
Location
Our office is located in the historic Utopa Weeshuis at the Hooglandse Kerkgracht 17H in Leiden. All our employees, including our interns, work both from home and on location. However, for a part-time internship we ask you to be at the office regurarly to maintain connection with the team.
